Luis del Amo

Born to a military family in the Spanish island of Menorca. Brought up in Western Sahara and finally moving to Madrid in his teens. Luis interest in photography was born when he found an issue of PHOTO with a poolside editorial by Helmut Newton.It was 1976. He knew that’s what he wanted to do straight away. He began assisting, There he learnt about light and analog photography. All in a time where digital correction wasn’t available and the margin of error was non existent. His career started amidst the years of La Movida. Spain had just come out of a fascist regime, years of liberation, experimentation and a lot of “Do it yourself” based on distant chimes from foreign trends. His main influences where the great American photographers, Penn and Avedon. And of course Newton. His approach to fashion photography has always been focused on simplicity over technicality or gimmicks. Giving outmost importance to the person in front of the camera. “Just make the girls look beautiful, everything else comes after”
