Murmur by Steve Macleod
A gentle grinding darkness descends, murmuring at the fringes of my mind. Stark, beautiful and melancholic, Macleod presents a sombre series of works that interpret a low point in his emotional state. Photographed over a period of weeks in the same location of a farmed willow plantation, this space became a place to go and calmly reflect. In the UK, one in four people experience a mental health issue at some point in the their life. Historically it is something that people have been afraid to talk openly about and shy away from - compounding misunderstanding and confusion about these conditions. Diagnosed with Manic Depression several years ago and after extended periods of CBT and psychiatric treatment Macleod uses photography to explore the condition he has learned to manage and cope with.
